The self-cleaning filter in the Millennium range of vacuum units has 4 metal springs attached to a central weight which sits above the fabric of the filter. When the vacuum unit is activated the springs flex upwards and, when the vacuum switches off, the springs flick down giving the material a sharp tap and the vibration causes any accumulated dust to fall into the bin below.
